# A Fish Is Not Found

If a search comes up empty, try a few quick adjustments before assuming the fish is missing.

## Try this

- **Use fewer letters.** A shorter search term casts a wider net.
- **Try another name.** Fish sell under several names. If "dorado" fails, try "mahi-mahi." If "lox" fails, try "salmon."
- **Check the spelling.** The search is typo-tolerant, but a name that is far off can still miss.
- **Search the scientific name.** If you have the Latin name from a label, try that.

## Still nothing?

The database is large but not infinite, so a rare or regional fish may not be in it yet. If you cannot find a fish you expected, you can report it so it can be added. See "Report a Correction or a Missing Fish" in this section.
