Description
The goldfish is a freshwater fish in the family Cyprinidae of the order Cypriniformes. It is commonly kept as a pet in indoor aquariums, and is one of the most popular aquarium fish.
Goldfish are edible and closely related to some widely eaten carp, but they're rarely eaten today.
The goldfish is native to China, where it was selectively bred from wild carp over a thousand years ago. It was later introduced to Japan, Europe, and North America.
