This Privacy Policy explains how Rosenberg Digital LLC (“Kosher Fish,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use the website at kosherfish.co and the Kosher Fish apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android (together, the “Service”).
Kosher Fish is a lookup tool. It tells you whether a fish is kosher. You do not need an account, and we do not ask you for personal information to use it.
The short version
- There are no accounts, so we hold no profile about you.
- The apps work offline. The fish database ships inside the app, so looking up a fish sends nothing to us.
- We collect a small amount of anonymous usage and crash data to fix bugs and see which features get used.
- We do not sell your information, and we do not show ads.
What we collect
On the website
Usage data, only with your consent. We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages get visited, what people search for, browser and device type, and approximate country or city-level location derived from your IP address. Analytics loads only if you accept analytics cookies in the consent banner. You can change or withdraw that choice at any time from the banner.
Diagnostics. We use Sentry to capture errors so we can fix them. Error reports include the page involved and technical details about the failure.
Security and spam filtering. Our host logs standard request data, including IP address, user agent, and timestamps. We use Wordfence to block malicious traffic and Akismet to filter spam from any form submissions.
If you contact us. If you send us a message through a form or by email, we receive what you wrote and the address you sent it from, and we keep it so we can reply. Form mail is delivered through Amazon Simple Email Service.
In the iPhone, iPad, and Android apps
The fish database is bundled in the app. Searching for a fish, reading a fish page, and browsing the list all happen on your device. Those lookups are not sent to us.
App analytics. We use Google Firebase Analytics to record which screens you view and events like viewing a fish. It receives a randomized app instance identifier and approximate IP-derived location. It does not receive your name, email, or precise location. The iOS app does not collect the advertising identifier and does not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission, because it does not track you across other companies’ apps and websites.
Diagnostics. We use Sentry to collect crash reports and performance data.
No accounts, no contacts, no location. The apps do not ask you to sign in, do not read your contacts or photos, and do not request GPS location.
What we do with it
- Understand which fish people look up and which pages are useful, so we can improve the guide.
- Find and fix bugs and crashes.
- Keep the site and apps secure and free of spam.
- Reply to you if you contact us.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your information. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not display ads on the site or in the apps.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the providers that run the Service for us, and only so they can provide their service:

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to respond to lawful requests, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of our users, the public, or us. If we are ever involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may transfer as part of that deal, and we will say so if it becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
Cookies
The website sets cookies for two reasons. Essential cookies keep the site working and secure. Analytics cookies, set by Google Analytics, load only if you accept them in the consent banner. You can decline analytics cookies and the fish lookup still works exactly the same. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
The apps do not use cookies.
How long we keep it
Analytics data is retained by Google under the retention window configured for our property. Sentry error reports are kept for 90 days and then deleted. Messages you send us are kept as long as needed to handle your question. Server logs are rotated on a short cycle.
Your rights
Because we hold no account, we usually have no way to identify data as yours. If you believe we hold information about you, or you want it deleted, email [email protected] and we will look.
California residents. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to access or delete it, to correct it, to receive a copy, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the law, so there is nothing to opt out of.
Users in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom. You may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to our processing, and to data portability. Our legal bases are your consent for analytics cookies, and our legitimate interests in keeping the Service secure and working. You can withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to complain to your local supervisory authority.

Children’s privacy
Kosher Fish is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Where your information is processed
We operate the Service in the United States. If you use it from elsewhere, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those where you live.
Links to other sites
The Service links to third-party websites, including kosher certification agencies and reference sources. This policy does not apply to them, so review their privacy policies before providing information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Service or the law changes. When we make a material change, we will update the date at the top of this page.
