Description
Argyrosomus regius, also known as the meagre, croaker, jewfish, shade-fish, sowa, kir, corvina, salmon-bass or stone bass, is a species of fish of the family Sciaenidae. This large fish has a pearly-silver to brownish coloration and a yellow-coloured mouth.
The meagre (Argyrosomus regius), sometimes called jewfish, lives in the eastern Atlantic from Norway down to DR Congo, including the Mediterranean and Black Seas. It has also reached the Red Sea through the Suez Canal. It prefers inshore waters and the continental shelf, usually at 15 to 100 meters over sand near rocks.

Warnings & Kosher Issues
- Kosher. The meagre has fins and scales.
- The name jewfish is used for several unrelated fish, including groupers, so the name alone doesn't identify the species.
