Description

Schoolmaster is a snapper with excellent white flesh, taken by both sport and commercial fishers and usually grilled, fried, or baked whole. It isn't targeted as heavily as some other snappers.

The schoolmaster snapper, Lutjanus apodus, lives in the western Atlantic from Bermuda and Florida through the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean. It stays in shallow water around coral and seagrass, typically from the surface to about 50 meters.
