Description

Atlantic spadefish has firm, good-quality white flesh, though it's hard to harvest in volume so it stays mostly a sport catch. When it's kept, it's typically filleted and grilled or fried.

Spadefishes (family Ephippidae) live in tropical and temperate seas worldwide. The Atlantic spadefish is the only member in the western Atlantic and is common from New England to southern Brazil, often around reefs, wrecks, and pilings.
