Yellowtail snapper

The yellowtail snapper is an abundant species of snapper native to the western Atlantic Ocean including the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. Although they have been found as far north as Massachusetts, their normal range is along Florida south to the West Indies and Brazil.

Yellowtail snapper has sweet, light, flaky meat and is a Florida Keys favorite. It is good fried, baked, or grilled, often cooked whole.

This snapper lives in the western Atlantic from around Massachusetts south to Brazil, but it is most common in the Bahamas, off Florida, and through the Caribbean. It hangs around coral reefs, usually between about 10 and 70 meters deep, and is caught commercially on hook and line.
