Description

In Japan krill is known as okiami. In Southeast Asia it's fermented with the shells on and ground into shrimp paste, or stir-fried and eaten with rice. It's also pressed into krill oil capsules and used in animal feed.

Krill live in every ocean worldwide. Antarctic krill usually stay near the surface to about 100 meters, while some species go as deep as 4,000 meters. They're fished in Antarctic waters and the seas around Japan.
