Lumpfish
Cyclopterus lumpus
Cyclopterus is a genus of marine ray-finned fish belonging to the family Cyclopteridae, the lumpsuckers or lumpfish. Its only species is Cyclopterus lumpus, the lumpsucker or lumpfish.
Lumpfish are targeted mainly for their roe, which is dyed and sold as an inexpensive caviar substitute. The fishery centers on Canada, Greenland, Iceland, and Norway, with smaller catches in Denmark and Sweden.
Lumpfish live in the cold waters of the Arctic, North Atlantic, and North Pacific. They're a benthic species that spends most of its time on or near the bottom over rocky or muddy substrates, found on the continental shelf and slope down to about 1,700 m.
