Description

Lancetfish flesh is watery and gelatinous, though it's edible and reportedly sweet. There are no commercial fisheries for them because the flesh quality is so poor.

Lancetfish are widely distributed in all oceans except the polar seas. They're solitary, mesopelagic to bathypelagic fish living at depths between about 100 and 2,000 m, with a long, very high dorsal fin and large fang-like teeth.
