Description

Channel bass, better known as redfish or red drum, is popular table fare with a moderate, low-oil flavor. It is the classic fish in blackened redfish. Larger fish over about 15 pounds can get tough.

The red drum, or channel bass, ranges in the Atlantic from Massachusetts to Florida and throughout the Gulf of Mexico to northern Mexico. It favors grassy marsh areas of bays and estuaries and spawns near shorelines.
