Description
The lingcod or ling cod is a fish of the greenling family Hexagrammidae. Despite its name, the lingcod is neither a cod nor a ling.
Lingcod is a popular eating fish prized by anglers. About 20% of lingcod have blue-green flesh, possibly from biliverdin, and that color disappears once cooked.
Lingcod are native to the North American west coast from the Gulf of Alaska down to Baja California. They live on rocky bottoms at about 10 to 100 m (occasionally to 475 m) and are most abundant near British Columbia and Washington. Juveniles use eelgrass and kelp beds while adults prefer rocky reefs.

Warnings & Kosher Issues
- Lingcod has fins and scales (the body is covered in cycloid scales), so it is kosher.
- Despite the name, lingcod is not a true cod or a ling. It's a member of the greenling family (Hexagrammidae).
- Don't confuse it with ling (Molva, a true cod relative) or with cobia, which is also nicknamed ling.
