Warnings & Kosher Issues
- The palometa (Trachinotus goodei) is a pompano relative with fins and scales, so it is kosher.
- Reports of ciguatera poisoning exist for this species.
- The name palometa is used regionally in South America for many other fish, including some piranhas, so a fish sold as palometa may not be Trachinotus goodei.
