European perch live in fresh water across Europe (except the Iberian Peninsula) and east to the Kolyma River in Siberia, plus the brackish Baltic Sea. They favor slow rivers, deep lakes, and ponds, avoid cold or fast water, and are most abundant in relatively shallow lakes.
