Warnings & Kosher Issues
- Atlantic pomfret has fins and scales (even the dorsal and anal fins are scaled), so it is kosher.
- Pomfret is also a name for the butterfishes in the genus Pampus (family Stromateidae), which are different fish from the true pomfrets of family Bramidae.
- In South Africa it is often sold as angelfish, though it is not a true marine angelfish.
