Description

The scup is a fish that occurs primarily in the Atlantic from Massachusetts to South Carolina. Along with many other fish of the family Sparidae, it is also commonly known as porgy.

Scup is a sweet, firm, flaky panfish that's usually fried, broiled, or baked, and small ones are often cooked whole. The mild flesh also works for sushi.

Scup, Stenotomus chrysops, is a porgy (family Sparidae) found in the Atlantic from Massachusetts to South Carolina. It lives over the continental shelf and migrates inshore as spring water warms, then back to deeper water in winter.
