Smallmouth bass
Micropterus dolomieu
The smallmouth bass is a species of freshwater fish in the sunfish family (Centrarchidae) of the order Centrarchiformes. It is the type species of its genus Micropterus, and is a popular game fish sought by anglers throughout the temperate zones of North America, and has been spread by stocking, as well as illegal.
Smallmouth bass isn't a common market fish, but anglers do eat it. Smaller fish from cool, clean water give firmer, better-tasting white fillets.
The smallmouth bass, Micropterus dolomieu, is a North American freshwater fish native to the upper and middle Mississippi basin, the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence system, and nearby waters. It likes clearer, cooler water than the largemouth, especially rocky streams, rivers, and lakes.
