Steelhead is the sea-run form of rainbow trout, native to coastal waters and rivers around the Pacific from Kamchatka across the Aleutians and down the North American west coast. It spends two to three years at sea, then returns to cold rivers to spawn, and it is also farmed in Chile, Norway, and Idaho.
