Description
Whelks are eaten as a seafood, and the common northern whelk in particular is prized by some, though it's eaten less than it used to be.
Whelks live in every sea on earth, from tropical oceans to the Arctic and Southern Oceans. You'll find them from the shoreline down to the deep sea, mostly on a solid bottom, with some on sandy ground.
